Statement from Band Director, Paul Binder.

Posted: 8th March 2020

“Dear All

As you would have no doubt be aware, there is a greater awareness and focus on the Coronavirus as the situation begins to affect the UK.  Naturally we take the health and wellbeing of all members, staff, parents  and guests at the band seriously and thought it would be wise for everybody to know what we are doing at the band.

We are in contact with the other hirers of the hall and all groups are upping the hygiene responsibilities and all reviewing their risk assessments.

You will have all seen the nationally advertised campaigns for hand washing and disposing of tissues, which we know you will do at the band hall.   In addition, We will also be disinfecting the hall after a rehearsal as we are aware that brass/woodwind instruments often leak saliva onto the floor.  Another measure is that members are not to play on other band members instruments. Door handles and light switches are being cleaned too.

It shouldn’t disrupt rehearsals too much, however we will stop playing slightly earlier to clean up the hall.  The NCO’s have been great in assisting with the clear up at the end of the rehearsals, so with everyones help, this should get done quite quickly.

The Coronavirus virus in the UK (and the rest of the world)  is a constantly developing situation.  There are daily updates going out to schools from Public Health England and Department for Education and we will be monitoring the guidelines on what we should be doing as a youth organisation.  It is likely that there may be further communication from myself and the band staff and how it impacts the band, rehearsals and future performances if the situation develops.

The purpose of this email is as stated above, to inform you that we take everyones well being seriously and that we will be reviewing the situation and will communicate accordingly.

If you have any concerns, please email me directly and I will do my best to answer any questions.

Kind Regards

Paul Binder

Band Director”
