Boxing Band!
Article by Lance Corporal Amy Rowe
The evening started with Steve and Bev picking us up, Bev’s posse in her car Myself Colette and Bradley, Steve’s posse in his car Ross, Billy, Jack and Georgia. The Sat Nav’s were set for Brick Lane and after an unsuccessful guided tour through the East End of London we eventually arrived a little after our ETA.
Once there, we were greeted by the show organizer who was pleased to see us. We had time to get ready and went on to play a few drum tattoos outside the venue.
We then went inside; the club was quite small with a ring at the opposite end to where we were playing. We knocked out a few more tattoo’s (Oooh a pun) to a club full of boxing enthusiasts and then it was time for the action.
Not long after we had sat down we were informed that most of the boxers wanted a solo drummer to clear the way as they entered the ring. In turn each drummer took a boxer into the ring, it was like a scene straight from Rocky.
After several split lips, black eyes and dented pride, the evening came to a close.
To conclude, the evening was fun but only confirmed that I have no intention of taking up boxing!!
