TYMBA Competition – Dartford 2nd July 2011
The second competition Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps entered was the TYMBA competition held in a local park in Dartford. The big difference to this competition was that the RDTC Academy was showing off their marching skills as a guest item in the days programme. The Arena for this time was a lot smaller than Nottingham and the band had just two rehearsals (total of 4 hours!) in which to amend their routine accordingly.
On the day the sun was shining and there were blue skies, fortunately it was not quite as hot as the previous competition, making the conditions a lot more comfortable. The band arrived to a very pleasant “Fun day” atmosphere, and even though there was plenty of fun to be had, the Marching competition was taken very seriously.
The Academy were the first to march, they all looked smart and polished and marched on in a very professional and well practiced manor. Their routine was marching to “Blaze Away” played over the PA system. They were not being judged in competition but the judges agreed to give feedback and as they marched off one judge was heard to say “What a fantastic march”. The supporters all gave the academy a massive cheer as they completed the routine. Well done Academy for your first appearance without the main band.
Then it was the competition, Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps entered the arena in their usual high class standard with the uniforms looking as smart as ever. The routine was slick and well presented even though there was limited space and at some points in the routine the band almost filled the complete arena. The music was moving and the supporters loved it, even several of the judges were seen to be getting right into it. Again the performance was excellent especially with the limited space.
The Bands amassed in the arena for the results, out of eight captions Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps took first place in six. These included GME, Percussion, Wind, Drill, Display and Turnout. This led to RDTC taking the overall first place. The Academy also were awarded a special caption of “Best Guest item”
Well done to both the Main band and the Academy for a thoroughly enjoyable day and two very good performances.
