London Marathon - Sunday 17th April 2011
Following on from yesterday's performance in East London the dedicated band and assistants arrived early at our new HQ. To travel, this time a little further afield, into Central London for the London Marathon. The band set up just outside the Tower of London in preparation to inspire and motivate 30,000+ runners including our very own band member Mark Newman who decided to pound the streets of London (26.2 miles) to raise funds for the band!
Mark had this to say: "In a nutshell, it was the most gruelling, painful yet most enjoyable and satisfying thing I’ve probably ever done, and each minute of aching in the coming days will be worth it just to say “I’ve done it!”.
I’m definitely up for beating my time next year!!"
It was the hottest day of the year so far and the band put on a fun, but professional, performance playing all their favourites, which included the theme tune from Rocky.
Not only did they manage to motivate the runners they entertained the crowd with old and new favourites.
The welcoming sight of Mark passing them at the 23 mile stage of the course was rewarding for both, especially when Mark decided to spray the whole band including Band Master Paul with water!!
The band headed off home after a fun and proud weekend for a well deserved rest on Sunday evening, looking forward to the next event.
Well done RDTC.
