Joint Concert with the Band of Irish Guards and Marshalls Park Music Department.

The second concert of 2009 saw the corps joined by two other musical organisations, the Music Department from Marshalls Park School and the Band of the Irish Guards.

During the afternoon the band and the pupils from Marshalls Park School took part in a workshop session with the guards, providing an opportunity to develop their musical ability and learn from the professionals from the Army Corps of Music. Between the workshop and the concert the band and their guests were treated to a rather tasty fish and chip dinner before changing into uniform ready for the evening’s show.

The first half of the concert gave a chance for the corps, joined by the pupils from Marshalls Park School to entertain the 250 strong crowd with a varied programme of music. Particular highlights included a Euphonium Solo by Cpl Joe Harvey, along with crowd favourites You Raise Me Up and a medley from the popular Disney film Pirates of the Caribbean.

Following a twenty minute interval, the Irish Guards took to the stage and showed great technical ability in there performance, which included a traditional march along with Gaelforce and Hymn to the Fallen, which was dedicated in the memory of Kirk Redpath.

The Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps and pupils from Marshall Park School then joined the guards on stage for the massed band finale, which proved to be a fitting end to an spectacular evening. The band, pupils and guards performed the theme from The Incredibles, Soul Bossa Nova – made famous by the Austin Powers films, Malaguena, and Pastime With Good Company with each band playing their march pasts before ending the concert in traditional style with the National Anthem.

The evening was a huge success with many of the crowd commenting on how entertaining the night was and the band certainly went home with their heads held high after a strong performance.
