Pam Evans 1955 -2008
Pam Evans was raised in Hainault and met and married Steve in 1981. Soon after moving to Romford her eldest daughter joined the band and it started an association and involvement in the Corps for almost twenty years. Initially Pam took on the role of Band Secretary and her administrative skills ensured things were kept in order. As her involvement grew, her influence on the band and desire to see it succeed meant she was an asset in so many ways. She opened a lot of doors for the organisation and was always perusing a grant opportunity or a chance to raise the profile of the band.
Her work load was huge and as the band became more diverse and ambitious so the requirement for paperwork and administration grew. Pam was super efficient at all the requirements that were quite often not seen, but never the less were vitally important. Once her family grew up she was given the opportunity to work as a youth support worker and excelled in the role as youth support worker for London Youth. In this role she helped countless young people achieve many opportunities to flourish as volunteers in a variety of projects.
Eventually her work with the band began to get noticed and she was awarded the Civic award by the Mayor of Havering in 2003 and was the first ever winner of the Band's President Award for Outstanding Service. However Pam never sought the accolades and was happiest in the background in her roles within the band and particularly enjoyed the many , many times she travelled with and supported the band.
She leaves her husband Steve, two daughters Kerrie and Kirsty, her son Tom and two grandaughters and many, many friends.
In the week following the news of her passing, the band's guestbook quickly filled with messages. A small sample are shown below

My deepest condolences to Pam's family. She was a well revered and much loved member of her community and lovely, friendly woman. She was a person to look up to and learn from which i did whilst briefly working with her.

On behalf of all the family we extend our sincere sympathy to Steve and family. To us in Cromer Pam was a lovely lady, with a big heart who has left so many happy memories for us all. There are so many people in Cromer who were equally shocked to hear the sad news and without exception they all knew her as either Pam or the lady who looked after the Romford Band, all held her in high regard. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

I was so sad to hear about Pam. What an awful shock for everyone, and what a huge gap her passing will leave in so many people's lives. So many people will remember her for everything that she did for what was important in life and for people throughout Havering, for music and for young people. She will be badly missed.

It was both a pleasure and a privilege to have known Pam.
I know she will be sorely missed by all those associated with the band as well her friends and colleagues but especially her family; Steve, Kerrie, Kirsty, Tom, Paul and the girls – our thoughts are with you at this time of great sadness.
In offering you all my deepest condolences, I also reflect on the fact that whilst Pam was many things to many people – Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Friend… she touched a great many people in a positive way throughout her life, I am grateful to have been among them.

Pam was like a Mum to our four children as they passed through the band. Also a loyal and trusted friend, giving us invaluable help and guidance whenever we needed it.
Pam was as proud as we were to attend Nicola's Passing Out Parade and we will treasure for ever our memories of this and countless other happy days throughout our 15 years with the band.
Our loss is Heavens gain.
R. I. P. Pam

It's such a shock to hear of Pam's passing and my thoughts at this very sad time are with her family, Steve, Kerrie, Kirsty, Tom, Josie, Ellie and Paul for their loss. Pam was a wonderful lady who gave so very much to everyone and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by so many. Pam gave my children, James and Jess, so much of her time and I will be forever grateful that she was such a major part of their band life. We will always remember her.
